Bordered on the north by Wyoming and Nebraska and on the south by the Denver metropolitan area, Weld County has a mild and dry climate. Most people who settled down in Weld County in the early 1900’s came as railroad workers but many soon worked in the productive beet fields. The county offers many recreational opportunities and sports fans don’t have to go far to cheer for their favorite teams. Weld County’s cultural assets include Centennial Village, an authentic recreation of pioneer life on the Colorado plains, and Fort Vasquez. Fertile fields of green can be found in every part of the county and ranks as the third leading agricultural area in the United States but is also leading in Colorado in producing oil and gas. Weld County’s population is approximately 180,000 and covers an area of 3,999 square miles.
