Thousands of years ago from the molten rocks of the planet, the area around Broomfield knew the upheavals that created the Rocky Mountains to the West. Ancient animals roamed the area, becoming fossils that draw archaeologists to the area today. Broomfield is located in the Eastern part of Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District. It began as an agrarian community but also adventurous gold-seekers settled down in the area seeking their fortunes and hoping to strike gold in Colorado’s wilderness. Broomfield County is Colorado's newest county, formed by statute in 2001 and became thereby the 64th county in Colorado. It encompasses part of Adams, Boulder, Jefferson and Weld Counties. Broomfield’s population is approximately 36,790.
