UDALL CONDEMNS IRAN PRESIDENT’S CONFERENCE ON HOLOCAUST
(Westminster, CO) – Colorado Congressman Mark Udall (D-Eldorado Springs) released the following statement condemning Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s conference denying that the Holocaust occurred:
“This week in Tehran, Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad convened a two-day conference for Holocaust deniers, predicting that ‘The Zionist regime will be wiped out soon the same way the Soviet Union was, and humanity will achieve freedom.’
“It is deeply shocking and incomprehensible to me that despite volumes of documentation and living witnesses who can attest to the horrors of the Holocaust, there are still those who would deny it. Worse, as we’ve seen this week, there are also those who would convene an international conference to spread their hateful views.
“On December 8, the House of Representatives unanimously passed H.Res. 1091, a resolution condemning Iran’s commitment to hold the Holocaust conference; reaffirming the U.S. commitment to prevent a nuclear Iran; calling on the UN to publicly repudiate all of Iran’s anti-Semitic statements and hold accountable UN member states that encourage such statements; reaffirming U.S. support for Israel; and vowing never to forget the murder of millions in the Holocaust and vowing to ensure that such genocide never happens again.
“We will never forget. As the resolution states, ‘to deny the Holocaust's occurrence is in itself an act of anti-Semitism.’ I condemn Ahmadinejad’s statements and this conference in the strongest possible terms.”
