Congressman Mark Udall (D-Eldorado Springs) announced his intention to honor eligible Colorado veterans with the Jubilee of Liberty Medal. The Jubilee of Liberty Medal was first awarded in June 1944 to American servicemen for their participation in the Battle of Normandy. The medals were minted at the request of the Regional Council of Normandy to be presented to veterans attending the 50th anniversary of the D-Day landing on June 6,1994.
The medals are now made by a United States company. In addition, the French government continues to issue “Thank-you-America” certificates which Udall’s office can obtain for eligible veterans.
“Our World War II veterans represent the very best of America and serve as a model and inspiration to our men and women in uniform today. The invasion of Normandy showed the United States’ ability to be a force for good in the world. It is never too late to recognize these soldiers’ brave service to our country,” said Udall.
Veterans eligible for the medal include all those who served from June 6 to August 31, 1944. Eligible veterans should contact Carolyn Boller at 303-650-7820.
